Wedding Day!

My youngest nephew got married on Saturday. That's his older brother behind him, serving as his best man.  The groom wore his typical casual smile while his brother took his job very seriously! His bride, escorted by her dad, ethereal in her DIY flapper style gown. The groom thought so, too. This lovely wedding is proof that a romantic affair (weather permitting) doesn't have to break the bank.  The tables were set with assorted clear medicine bottles, wine glasses, teacups with flowers and candles arranged within.  Paper lanterns and twinkle lights adorned the trees.  Dinner was assorted upscale barbecue on small plates collected at tag sales.  Casual and comfortable was the theme of the day.  The bride's attendants wore color coordinated dresses of differing styles and lengths and carried home made bouquets.  The groom's mother made the boutonnieres.  The bride bought her dress off the rack and added the fringed straps herself.  The floral arch was rented as was the …

Late Summer

Now that my eternal personal Summer's are long past, I can say without hesitation that I LOVE Summer.  I love being playing outside in the garden getting all sweaty with dirt under my nails. I love growing flowers and berries and tomatoes and sunflowers. I avoid trouble-makers like yellow jacket wasps and I've made my peace with native honey bees - I work alongside them, they don't sting me. I'll try a planter arrangement for the strawberries next year. I don't fight tomato blight any more - I grow patio tomatoes in pots and have a steady stream of small tomatoes all summer. Does all this have something to do with my age? I feel sad to feel the autumn creeping in slowly, summer slipping away day by day. Does the Summer represent what's left of my youth and vitality? Does approaching cold Winter with it's dark morni…

Fat Secret

First of all, it's  And let me just say up front, I hate, hate, hate the name of the this website.  That said, I love, love, love this website.  I'm going to tell you all about it and they're not compensating me at all - nada.  The first thing I love about this website is that it's FREE.  There is nothing to buy, no fee to pay.  I love the idea of keeping track of what I eat but I hate the process.  This website allows me to quickly look up a food from their data base, adjust the portion if I need to, and with a click, enter it into my tracker.  I adds the calories, the protein, the carbs and the fat and even shows me a pie chart so I can see if I might like to add more protein to my day. They have challenges, communities, groups, an area to journal if you'd like to do that.  You can also track your physical activity for the whole day if you're into that.  I don't own a fancy phone (yeah, I have a "mom" phone that I don't e…

Summer Knitting

Zuni Shawl by Makewise Designs in organic cotton by http://www.knitpicks. in "Toffee".  An excellent summer knitting project.  I may have to make another in wool to wrap around my neck when the winter chill sets in.

And a wonderful new book by Deborah Madison to read when I get tired of knitting.
