Linen and Lace

Image
Summer wedding dressing for the mother of the best man - pale blue linen and lace top over a slim white crocheted skirt. I bought the top in a boutique at the shore when we were on vacation. It's made by August Silk. The skirt is Liz Claiborne New York. Comfortable, cool and age appropriate. As I get older, I do worry about that. I've asked my husband to tell me if I ever look like I'm trying too hard. I want to keep up with current trends but many of them are best left to the kids. I saw a woman in the mall last week with black mani and pedi and black slave sandals laced almost to her knees. She had to have been well over 60. As difficult as it is to look sometimes, everybody should have a full-length mirror and an honest friend with good taste, fashion sense and a kind heart.

Sweet Summer

I got good news from my doctor yesterday. The piece of me that was removed last week was not cancerous. I'm free and clear to enjoy the rest of the summer and that's more than enough for now...

This Moment
Because this is the first time all 13 of us have been together for a photograph...and I will cherish it forever...

I have been inspired by SouleMama to take a moment ...

{this moment}

"A Friday ritual. A single photo...capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember."If you're inspired to do the same, leave a link to your 'moment' in the comments for all to find and see."

Favorite Things

Image
I was just taking spin around my favorite blogs and landed on one that was hosting a "Favorite Things" party. Aside from my family and my little dog, I'd have to say that my favorite "thing" is my kitchen. It's where I live most of the time. We celebrate all our special occasions here. We share family dinners in this space. It's spacious enough for us but not so roomy that it echoes. It's warm and inviting and I designed it to be that way. In an era that celebrates stainless steel, I chose a creamy ecru for the appliances. While others may go for a sleek, modern look, I wanted an antique copper band to form a border around matte finished tiles for the back splash and copper pulls on the cabinet doors and drawers. It was completed seven years ago and I still love this space.

I created a notebook with pictures torn out of magazines or downloaded from website that had features I liked. The island and the computer desk has a top that looks like soapston…
